Single Vehicle Accident With Rescue On I-78

Friday, October 2, 2015   Engine 5111 & Utility 5191 assisted stations 8,25,56 & 62 with an early morning, single vehicle accident with rescue, eastbound on I-78 in neighboring Upper Macungie Twp. The vehicle landed over an embankment in high weeds which made it difficult for responding units to find.


Combine Fire In Lowhill

Wednesday, September 23, 2015   Engine 5111, Tanker 5121 & Utility 5191 responded with station 8 & Tanker 2621 for a combine on fire in the field. The fire was quickly extinguished and was contained to the lower front portion of the unit.


Vehicle Hits Propane Tank In District 17

Saturday, September 19, 2015  Engine 5111 & Tanker 5121 assisted station 17 (New Tripoli) at an incident involving a vehicle into an underground propane tank. Tanker 5121 shuttled multiple loads of water from nearby ponds along with tankers from stations 17, 8, 10, 14, 16 & 23. Engine 5111 initially stood by to cover calls at station 17 but later was assigned to setup a 2nd fill site to support tanker operations. Crews operated for several hours until the scene was deemed safe.


I-78 Truck Fire

Monday, September 14, 2015  Weisenberg and Berks Engine 46 (Kutztown) were dispatched to an I-78 truck fire late Monday night. Asst Chief 5103 requested 2 additional tankers to respond after recieving information that numerous callers were stating a working fire. 2nd due units from Trexlertown and Fogelsville assisted as crews stopped the fire from extending to the trailer. I-78 Eastbound was fully closed for about an hour and only one lane open for another hour as fire and towing crews worked to clear the scene.



Vehicle Fire Next To Building

Thursday, September 3, 2015   Station 51, Engine 811, Tanker 821, Rescue 21 & EMS station 62 were dispatched for an early morning vehicle fire approx 10' from a commercial building. The fire was quickly knocked down by crews from Truck 5131 & Tanker 5121 while the crews from Utilities 5191 & 5192 checked the roof to confirm that the fire did not extend to the building. Remaining incoming units were recalled enroute.


Lawn Tractor Fire w/ Exposures

Friday, August 28, 2015  Engine 5111, Utility 5191 & Station 62 responded to a reported lawn tractor fire next to a house. Arriving crews found a fully involved riding mower located under a large maple tree and within a few feet of the house. The fire was quickly extinguished and did not spread to the residence.


4 Daytime Calls In District 51 On Monday

Monday, August 24, 2015  Crews had a busy day on Monday. It started off in mid morning w/ Engine 5111 & Utility 5192 responding to an odor of gasoline in a residence. Shortly after returning to station Engine 5111, Tanker 5121, Utility 5192, Tanker 821 & Station 62 responded to a tractor trailer fire on Kistler Court. After crews returned to station and before the overhead doors were closed, Engine 5111, Utility 5192 & 4 EMS units from Station 62 responded to an industrial accident w/ multiple injuries on Commerce Cir. While operating on that incident a call came in for an automatic fire alarm on Lyon Valley Rd. which was handled by Tanker 821.


A Night In The Country 2015

Saturday, August 15, 2015   Station 51 participated in the annual A Night In The Country event at the Northwestern Rec Fields. Teams from stations 10, 17, 22, 26, 37 & 51 battled it out at the firefighter games but in the end Station 17 (New Tripoli) came out victorious. We would like to thank all of the spectators who came out to cheer on their local fire department & Congratulate station 17 on winning this year's championship.

Lawnmower Accident on Commerce Cir.

Tuesday, July 28, 2015  Station 51 assisted station 62 (Cetronia EMS) at a lawn mower accident on Commerce Cir. The lawnmower rolled multiple times down a steep embankment of more than 100' eventually tossing the rider off partially down the hill. Crews from Engine 5111 & Utility 5191 used ropes to lower the injured patient the remaining way down the hill and transported him via pickup truck  to the ambulance out on the road.
